Ben Vorlich (Mountain of the Bay) Height 3232ft (985m).
Distance 7 miles (11.3km)
When approached from Ardvorlich House Loch Earn, then
through the Grouse Moor, Ben Vorlich is what I would
call a honest mountain in so much that what you see
is what you climb.
The path through the Grouse Moor is as would be expected
well defined; it only starts to get narrow when the
climb begins in earnest. After you reach the first ridge,
have a rest and enjoy the views. From here you can see
the Triangulation Pillar, it may look daunting but as
you arc up to the summit it is quite straightforward.
It was a sunny day with the Sun low in the sky, because
of this and the fact my camera lens kept misting up,
some of my photographs were a bit disappointing.
How to get there, take the A84 to Lochearnhead and
just before you reach the village turn right into the
Loch Earn South Road. It is a single-track road with
passing places, when you reach Ardvorlich House Park
off road.
